The birth of the nourished mother – my story, this World Maternal Mental Health Day 🌹
Through Ayurveda, the power of the rose, and post-natal depression...
I hadn’t realised, when I sat to write this story, that it would be published on World Maternal Mental Health Day.
My dearest friend, Sharon McGlinchey, the founder of MV Skintherapy, and her brilliant creative content manager, Charli, reached out to me a few months ago… they’d been reading MOTHER NOURISH and wondered if I’d like to share some of my nourishing content with their audience.
Initially, I thought I would write something practical – the ways in which I’ve stripped back my skincare for the better, or knit Ayurvedic wisdom into my daily life – but the more I sat with what it was I wanted to share, the more my birth story rose up to the surface… and Rose, quite literally, through a deep, subconscious connection between the scent of the flower, my own birth story and my journey with Post Natal Depression, following the arrival of my first child.
I’ve chosen to share it with my paid subscribers only here today, because it comes with some vulnerability… writing about the times when we felt most lost & unlike our selves… but knowing that PND affects around 1 in 10 women (and likely many more, who are unable to talk about it openly), I also know that I am not alone… and if even one other woman reads my story and feels more seen or held in her own, then it makes the decision to write this story more-than worth it.
